Happy 2009!

I just wanted to write a quick post to wish everyone a very happy new year.  The sun is shining today, so I think that bodes well for the year to go. 

I was working furiously the past couple of weeks to prepare for the holidays, which is the reason for my absence the past few weeks.  Now, I'm furiously cleaning and organizing my work spaces, trying to start the year off right.  I'm also working on new designs and an remodel of my shop, so I'll let you know about some of those very soon.

Well, the vacuum cleaner is beckoning to me, so it's back to work for me.

Festive Fling Tomorrow!

This has been a very busy vending week for me.  Last Saturday was the North Market holiday show.  Then, on Wednesday, I was at a holiday boutique at a local country club.  And tomorrow is the Etsy Team Columbus Festive Fling.  If you're in the Columbus area, come on down to Gresso's in German Village and have some fun with us!

All That Glitters is Gold

Yesterday I received a package from my dear friend Cindy.  I had no idea what it could be.  Since it was Yule, I decided "Yule gift!!!", and I proceeded to open it.  What a delightful surprise!  Inside the box were seven pretty glass tree ornaments, all of them green and glittery gold, with a Celtic knot design.  I love them them so much.  Next year, I'm going to need two trees to hang all of my pretty ornaments.

The Winter Solstice is such a beautiful time of year.  Sure, it's dreary and somewhat rainy outside my window, but it's still beautiful.  The northern hemisphere has reached it's shortest day, and from here on out, the days become longer.

I celebrate Yule as well as Christ- mas.  (Although with the English language Christmas is sometimes referred to as Yule, they are two separate holidays.)  From my Celtic ancestry, I honor our Mother Earth and light candles on this darkest day to represent the light of the Sun that is returning to us, to warm us during the cold winter.

I did learn something new today.  According to the Norse, the Yule Cat will bring new woolen clothing to those who are good, hard-working folk.  What about the bad, lazy people, you ask?  Oh, they get eaten.  Yule Cat, wherever you are, I am a very hard worker.  And I like red mittens.

Lucy and I, we go way back...

The boss let me take the day off from work today so I could go holiday shopping.  I thought that was very nice of her.  First order of business, finding an outfit to wear to the holiday party tomorrow night.  The fashion goddesses were with me today, as I found the perfect dress within the first five minutes of looking....and it was on sale...even better.  It reminds me of a vintage black cocktail dress from the 60's that I used to have, which became lost in one of my multiple NYC moves years ago. The only thing the new dress is missing is a drape across the back going from shoulder to shoulder, but other than that, very similar.  Second up, shoes.  I walk into the shoe store, and in the second aisle, there they are!  The perfect shoes to match the dress.  Black pumps, closed back and toe, cute heel, not too tall or skinny, and cute cross straps.   I've never had that much luck shopping in the span of one hour.  I'll post pics from the party in a few days.

It's time to bring out the Christmas tree.  I've already begun a bit of decorating, but it's time to drag everything up from the basement.  I just love it when the living and dining rooms are all aglow with lights and adorned with jewel tones.  In the meantime, an old friend has joined me at my house.

Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain!  This is one of my favorite days of the year.  It's the Celtic New Year, and the day to honor our ancestors.  And me, I've a million things that I want to do today.
