The winds from Hurricane Ike tore through my area on Sunday afternoon. I live in a neighborhood that is full of ravines and old trees, so it was hit pretty hard. I feel fortunate that I only lost a couple of small limbs. There was no damage to my house. Unfortunately, we have been without electricity all week, and it's looks like it will not be restored until Saturday. That has put a big damper on my work. I need to wind a warp for my loom...the winder is electric. I need to dye some scarves...my studio is in the dark basement without any lights. I need to wash fabric to prepare for dying...the washing machine is full of the items that were being washed when the power stopped. So, I've been doing non-computer paperwork, looking at photographs for visual references, sketching...all of the things I wish I had more time to do.
I'm not complaining, because there are so many more people who were hit much harder than Columbus was, and my heart goes out to them. I have candles, a battery operated camping lantern and weather band radio (on which I can listen to television shows). Now, if I could only make coffee in the morning.
